Bangalore: Man sent to jail for accepting bribe 19 years ago

His crime: accepting a bribe of Rs 200, 19 years ago. Chandrashekhar, a gram panchayat bill collector from Horamavu, near KR Puram, was convicted of taking the bribe and now has finally landed in prison.
He was caught red-handed for accepting the bribe on September 19, 1994 by the Lokayukta Police, for making charges in khata and other documents that are necessary for owning a piece of land. The lower court, had then, held him guilty in 2000. The court had sentenced him to six months of rigourous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1000.
The Karnataka high court upheld the verdict a year later and he had been on the run ever since. On Wednesday he was sent to Lokayukta court, from where he was sent to the prison for his sentence.
