Anthropic Launches Bengaluru Office, Bets Big on India’s AI Ecosystem

Global AI firm Anthropic has officially opened its India office in Bengaluru, marking a major expansion in one of its fastest-growing markets. Alongside the launch, the company announced a series of partnerships spanning enterprise technology, education, agriculture and public services.

India is currently the second-largest market for Claude.ai, Anthropic's AI platform. The company said nearly half of Claude usage in India relates to coding, mathematical tasks and production-level software development, highlighting the country's strong developer ecosystem.

Bengaluru chosen as India hub

The new Bengaluru office will serve as Anthropic's central hub in India and its second base in Asia after Tokyo. The company plans to hire across technical, enterprise and applied AI roles as it scales operations locally.

Irina Ghose, Managing Director of India at Anthropic, said India offers a strong combination of digital infrastructure, developer talent and real-world technology adoption at scale.

Focus on Indian languages

Anthropic has also been working to improve AI performance across major Indian languages. Over the past six months, the company curated higher-quality training data in 10 widely spoken languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam and Urdu.

It is now collaborating with Indian nonprofits and research groups to build evaluation benchmarks in areas such as agriculture and law. These benchmarks are expected to help improve how AI models perform in region-specific tasks and will be made publicly available.

Enterprise and startup adoption

Anthropic's India revenue run rate has doubled since October 2025, reflecting broader adoption across large enterprises and startups.

Among major companies:

Air India is using Claude tools to speed up internal software development.

CRED reports faster product delivery and improved test coverage using Claude Code.

Cognizant is rolling out Claude-powered tools to employees globally for system modernization.

Startups are also integrating Claude deeply into operations. Razorpay uses AI across risk management and decision systems, while Enterpret and other SaaS firms are embedding Claude into customer analytics and product development workflows.

Education and social impact

Educational use cases account for around 12 percent of Claude usage in India. Anthropic has partnered with Pratham to power an AI-based testing system being piloted in 20 schools, with plans to expand to 100 schools by the end of 2026.

The company is also collaborating with Indian nonprofits to explore AI solutions in agriculture and legal services, including tools that provide case updates and document summaries in regional languages.

With the opening of its Bengaluru office, Anthropic joins the growing list of global AI firms strengthening their India presence. The move reinforces Bengaluru's position as a key technology hub, particularly in advanced AI development and enterprise deployment.

As hiring begins and partnerships expand, the company's India strategy signals long-term investment in local talent and sector-specific AI applications tailored to Indian users.
