Anna Hazare threatens to fast if Lokpal Bill is not passed
In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Hazare said that he would start another hunger strike before the winter session if the Lokpal bill was not passed. Hazare also urged the PM to speak to the President in order to convene a special session of Parliment to pass the bill.
In the letter he said that if the government wanted to avoid that 'blot' of turning back on its promises, they must pass the bill before the Winter session. He even blamed the UPA government of betraying the trust of millions of Indians and said that he would begin his fast in Ramlila Maidan.
"I broke my fast on December 2011 believing that your government would pass the Bill before the Winter session. One Session after another has come and gone and now another Winter Session is before us. The Bill has not been passed yet," he lashed out in his letter.
He went on to say that had he been aware that the government would betray him and millions of Indians like this, he would not have broken his fast in the first place itself.
Anna Hazare: UPA passed all Bills except the Lokpal Bill
He even alleged and said that the UPA was not even keen on passing the Bill. "Some many Bills have been passed like the Land Acquisition Bill, Food Security Bill and Pension Bill, passed but not Lokpal Bill," he said.
Though the Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha, it was pending in the Rajya Sabha for almost two years.
He said that he would again go and make an appeal to the people and ask them to join forces like they did in August 2011.
