An Alternative Road To NICE Road In Bengaluru? BDA Eyes Parallel Road To Ease Traffic Snarls

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is exploring solutions to tackle traffic congestion in Bengaluru by considering the construction of an alternative road parallel to the NICE Corridor.

To evaluate the feasibility of this proposal, the BDA has recently called for bids from consultants to prepare a comprehensive project report (DPR), as reported by Deccan Herald.

Parallel Road To NICE Road In Bengaluru

The second phase of the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project aims to connect Mysuru and Hosur roads via Bannerghatta and Kanakapura roads. Despite initial plans for land acquisition for both phases in 2006-07, the project faced delays due to insufficient government funds to compensate landowners.

While the BDA contemplates executing the entire first phase of the project through a public-private partnership (PPP) model, the estimated cost for the second phase stands at Rs 1,589 crore.

Opinions on the necessity of the Parallel Road Project (PRR) Phase II vary. Some argue its redundancy in light of the existing NICE Road, while others believe it could greatly benefit commuters, particularly those traveling to Electronics City. However, some stakeholders view the project as aligning with the government's vision of fostering Bidadi as an alternative city to Bengaluru.

In areas such as Gottigere, Basavanapura, and Pillaganahalli, illegal constructions have been reported on designated land earmarked for the PRR, as per a report submitted to the court by the BDA. Landowners claim that they are unable to utilize their properties legally due to the PRR construction notification outlined in the Revised Master Plan 2015.

In 2006, the BDA designated 2,700 acres for Phase II of the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR), covering a stretch of 51 kilometers.
