55-Year-Old Bengaluru Man Jumps to Death at Mantri Mall; Alarming Rise in Suicide Cases

A tragic incident occurred on January 21 at Mantri Mall in Malleswaram, one of Bengaluru's most prestigious malls, where a 55-year-old man, Manjunath, died by suicide around 9 PM. The victim jumped from the 3rd floor of the mall. Preliminary investigations revealed that Manjunath had taken a loan of ₹2 crore and was struggling with severe depression. The police suspect that financial distress led him to take this drastic step. The exact details, however, will emerge from further investigations.

Rising Suicide Cases in Bengaluru

Suicide at Mantri Mall

Bengaluru has been witnessing an increase in suicide cases, with financial issues being a recurring factor. On January 6, a couple, Anoop (38) and Rakhi (35), both hailing from North India, poisoned their children, Varsha and Priyansh (2), before ending their own lives in the Sadashiva Nagar police station limits. The couple, originally from Uttar Pradesh, reportedly took this step due to overwhelming debt. Anoop, a software consultant in a private company, was struggling to manage the financial burden.

Online Gaming Addiction Claims Lives

In another tragic case on January 12, a 25-year-old man named Mallikarjuna, who worked as an assistant in a private hospital, ended his life under the Mahadevapura police station limits. Mallikarjuna was addicted to online gaming and had suffered heavy financial losses due to it. Unable to cope with the resulting mental stress and financial difficulties, he took the extreme step at his PG accommodation.

Suicide Attempt at Namma Metro Jalahalli Station

On January 5, a 23-year-old man named Sharon from Kerala attempted suicide at the Jalahalli station of Bengaluru's Namma Metro. Sharon jumped onto the tracks as a train approached around 7:12 PM. The speeding train struck him, leaving him with serious injuries. Security personnel quickly intervened and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
