Bangalore, Dec 17:Former chief minister of Karnataka, HD Kumaraswamy, celebrated his 55th birthday on Sunday (16th December) with his party workers, family and friends.

Son of the former Prime Minister of India H.D. Deve Gowda, Kumaraswamy was the 18th Chief Minister of Karnataka. He was earlier a noted producer, distributor and exhibitor of the Kannada film industry.

However, being the President of the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD (S)), he has certain challenges to meet to stay afloat this Lok Sabha election.

1) Regorganization of party : His leadership has always been under the scanner for his restricted reach out to only a few districts in Karnataka. Just to get rid of this image, he toured the entire state last time; however, the stigma remains. He now has a challenge to strengthen the party before the Lok Sabha elections.

2) Regaining LS seats : Preparing for LS poll and winning more seats than before is likely to be another challenge for him, especially when he lost both his seats from the Bangalore rural and Mandya in the by-poll. Surely he will not leave any stone unturned to win these two prestigious seats.

3) To become CM again : Being a prominent regional party head, HDK has his eyes set on the Chief Minister's post again. He was CM for just 20 months when he tied up with BS Yeddyurappa. His father, HD Deve Gowda, too expressed his wish to see HDK as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.

4) Teach a lesson to Congress : In last LS by poll JDS had lost both Bangalore Rural and Mandya seats to Congress. HDK will be eager to take revenge against Congress in the forthcoming LS poll in 2014.

5) Strengthen the party status in state : Right now JDS has only 40 people in the assembly. To come to power, he has to garner all his energy and experience to win assembly election independently and become CM again.

Here's wishing the former head of state all the best in all his endeavours on his birthday.
