40-45% Namma Metro Fare Hike Soon, But Off-Peak Passengers To Pay Less
With Namma Metro fares set to increase following the fare fixation committee's final report, which comes on the heels of a 15% bus fare hike, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is considering the implementation of differential fares for peak and non-peak hours.
Commuters are already expressing frustration over the recent bus fare hike, and now, BMRCL is preparing for its own fare adjustments. To soften the blow for passengers, Namma Metro authorities are planning to introduce discounted fares during non-peak hours.

The fare fixation committee has conducted public consultations and submitted its report, suggesting a possible Metro fare hike of 40-45%. While Metro officials emphasize that the increase should not unduly burden commuters, they are also concerned about a potential revenue drop on public holidays.
Once the fare hike is finalized, BMRCL plans to introduce lower fares during non-peak hours. Sources indicate that while revised fares will apply during peak times, fares during non-peak hours will be reduced by 10-15%. This discounted fare structure will also be extended on holidays to encourage more passengers during off-peak times. BMRCL hopes this strategy will strike a balance as the revised fare takes effect.
