26-Year-Old Customer Set Ola Electric Showroom On Fire Sue To Unresolved Scooter Issues

A frustrated Ola Electric customer reportedly set fire to one of the company's showrooms in Karnataka due to delays in repairing his electric scooter. According to a report by Moneycontrol, 26-year-old Mohammad Nadeem, a resident of Kalaburagi, had purchased the scooter on August 28 but soon encountered frequent issues with it. Despite numerous complaints and visits to the showroom, the problems remained unresolved.

Nadeem, who spent ₹1.4 lakh on the scooter, began facing battery and sound system issues within days of purchase, according to India Today. After multiple unsuccessful attempts to get the scooter repaired, Nadeem, a mechanic by trade, resorted to drastic action. On September 10, he bought petrol and set the Kalaburagi Ola Electric showroom on fire. Fortunately, the showroom was closed at the time, and no casualties were reported. However, six scooters were severely damaged, with the total loss estimated at ₹8.5 lakh.

Ola showroom on fire

"He bought an Ola scooter from the showroom 20 days ago, but it had frequent issues. The showroom staff did not address the problems despite his repeated visits. Frustrated with the issues and the staff's negligence, he poured petrol on the showroom and set it on fire on Tuesday," a senior police officer told Moneycontrol.

Initially, the fire was thought to be caused by a short circuit, but after Nadeem's involvement was uncovered, he was taken into custody for questioning, and a complaint has been filed against him.
