20-Year-Old Jain College Student Killed In Collision With Speeding BMTC Bus

A 20-year-old student named Kusumitha was tragically killed in an accident involving a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus. Kusumitha was riding a two-wheeler in the Malleswaram area on her way to college when the accident occurred.

Kusumitha (20), a student of Jain College, met a tragic end as a high-speed BMTC bus collided with her scooter from behind during her journey to college. The incident, blamed on the bus driver's negligence by locals, led to Kusumitha's demise. Her body was later taken to KC General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Expressing frustration, Kusumitha's father emphasized the need for BMTC drivers to exercise caution during peak hours when students are on the roads. He revealed that the family learned about the accident half an hour after it occurred.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident, which was captured on nearby CCTV footage.

No information about actions against the driver is available at this time.

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy pledged disciplinary action against the BMTC driver if found at fault. Deputy Commissioner of Police Traffic-East, Sarah Fathima, explained that the bus brushed against Kusumitha's scooter, dragging her for a short distance around 8:30 am. Although the bus did not run over her, she succumbed to the injuries. The driver has been arrested, and further investigations are underway.
