1.8-km Yemalur–ORR Road Stretch Under Development, March 15 Deadline Set

Road improvement works at the busy Yemalur-Outer Ring Road (ORR) junction in Bengaluru have been given a March 15 completion deadline, with the Bengaluru East City Corporation directing contractors to speed up the ongoing upgrade.

The directive came after Corporation Commissioner D.S. Ramesh carried out a field inspection of road development works in the Mahadevapura Assembly constituency. During the visit, officials reviewed progress on the 1.8-km stretch connecting Yemalur Junction to the Outer Ring Road, where groundwork for the upgrade is currently underway.

Inspection reviews progress of ongoing works

The road development is being executed under the Chief Minister's Infrastructure Development Programme (CMIDP). Officials said activities such as de-silting and road milling are already in progress as part of the preparatory stage for resurfacing and other improvements.

During the inspection, the Commissioner instructed contractors and engineers to complete the remaining works within the March 15 deadline. Officials were also told to maintain strict quality control to ensure the road upgrade lasts longer and does not require frequent repairs.

Key junction linking east Bengaluru to ORR

The Yemalur-ORR junction serves as a critical connectivity point in east Bengaluru, linking residential neighbourhoods and commercial areas with the Outer Ring Road corridor, one of the city's busiest traffic routes.

Thousands of commuters use this stretch daily to access offices, tech parks and residential areas around the ORR. The planned road improvements are expected to improve traffic movement and commuting conditions, particularly during peak hours.

Larger upgrades planned along ORR

The roadworks in Mahadevapura are part of a wider push to strengthen infrastructure along the ORR corridor. The Government of Karnataka has approved a ₹450-crore project to upgrade the 17-km ORR stretch between Silk Board Junction and KR Puram Metro Station.

The larger project includes plans for bus priority lanes, improved pedestrian footpaths and dedicated cycle tracks aimed at improving mobility along one of Bengaluru's most congested corridors.

With the March 15 target now set for the Yemalur stretch, civic authorities say progress will be closely monitored to ensure the road upgrade is completed on time, bringing relief to daily commuters in the area.
