Google Introduces AI Search Mode, Know Details Here
Google has begun introducing its AI Mode in Search to Indian users, though initially only in English. This innovative tool is integrated into Google's standard search engine, enabling users to ask questions and receive comprehensive, context-aware responses directly within the search results. Unlike traditional search methods that provide a list of links, AI Mode generates a detailed answer using artificial intelligence.
Initially launched in the U.S. earlier this year, Google later made AI Mode available in India through Search Labs in June. After early trials and feedback from users, Google is now expanding access across India without requiring sign-ups through Labs. However, the feature remains limited to English for now.

How Google AI Mode Functions
AI Mode is designed to handle detailed and multi-part queries that would typically need several separate searches. It uses a version of Google's Gemini 2.5 model to break down queries into sub-questions, gathering relevant information from the web. The final response appears as a summarised answer, often including links for further reading and options for follow-up questions.
Indian users can access this feature via a new "AI Mode" tab in Google Search results or the Google app's search bar. Users can type questions, use voice input, or upload images with Google Lens. For instance, taking a photo of a plant and asking how to care for it will result in step-by-step instructions and identification from the AI model.
Benefits of AI Mode
Google reports that AI Mode has been particularly beneficial for longer exploratory searches like comparing products, planning travel, or understanding technical topics. Early users have submitted queries two to three times longer than typical searches, often seeking detailed guidance or advice.
The feature uses a technique called "query fan-out," where Google's system breaks a question into parts, conducts multiple searches, and compiles a response. This allows for deeper topic coverage and can reveal content that might not appear in standard search results.
Current Limitations
Currently, AI Mode in India is restricted to English language use only. Google has promised future support for other languages. Additionally, the company notes that the AI tool is still experimental; it will display traditional search results when it lacks high confidence in its AI-generated answers.
