AI May Eliminate Most Jobs Within 20 Years But THESE Professions Will Remain
Adam Dorr, Director of Research at RethinkX, has made a bold prediction about the future of work. He believes that by 2045, artificial intelligence and robotics could make most human jobs obsolete. In an interview with The Guardian, Dorr explained that machines are evolving rapidly to perform tasks more efficiently and cost-effectively than humans.
According to Dorr, jobs involving routine cognitive tasks and predictable workflows are most vulnerable to AI takeover. This includes many white-collar professions employing millions worldwide. As AI systems become more advanced and affordable, they are expected to surpass human workers in quality and efficiency across nearly every industry.

Professions Likely to Survive
Dorr identifies a few professions that might withstand the AI revolution. These roles require deep emotional intelligence, ethical judgment, and human trust. Politicians, sex workers, and ethicists are examples of jobs that may remain in human hands. However, these areas won't provide enough employment for those displaced by automation.
Dorr's research spans over 1,500 historical technological disruptions. He notes that once new technology gains traction, it typically replaces existing systems within 15 to 20 years. AI is following this pattern but with the unique aspect of replacing human labour directly.
Potential Economic Impacts
The rapid development of AI is not just a gradual change but a swift and disruptive force. While some industries will adapt, the speed of AI advancement means it could take over most roles currently performed by people within two decades. This shift could lead to mass inequality if new economic models aren't adopted quickly.
Dorr envisions a future where machines meet most human needs, freeing people from traditional work forms. However, achieving this would require "bold experiments in how we define work, value, and ownership." Without such changes, the transition could be challenging for billions displaced by AI automation.
The idea of "super-abundance" suggests a world where machines handle essential tasks, allowing humans more freedom. Yet realising this vision depends on redefining economic structures and societal values to accommodate these technological advancements.
