Narendra Modi to resign as Gujarat CM today, to be accorded farewell in assembly

Modi will attend a special seccion of the state lesiltaive Assembly before handing over his resignation to Governor Kamla Beniwal. He will be given a farewell by the MLAs in the special session.
Modi reached Gujarat after a hectic schedule in the national capital where he addressed the newly elected MPs of the BJP and its allies in the Central Hall and met President Pranab Mukherjee in the Rashtrapati Bhavan to stake calim in the formation of the government. Before that, he was also elected the leader of the BJP's Parliamentary Party.
Modi became the CM of Gujarat in Oct 2001, when he replaced Keshubhai Patel
Later a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said - "Shri Narendra Modi, leader of the BJP parliamentary party, called on the President at 1515 hours today. As Shri Narendra Modi has been elected as BJP parliamentary party and BJP has the majority in the House of the people, the President appointed Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India and requested him to advise the names of others to be appointed members of the Council of Ministers," PTI reported.
Modi has been the chief minister of Gujarat since October 7, 2001, when he replaced Keshubhai Patel. It has been a long journey for the Modi since then.
The BJP won 282 seats in the just concluded Lok Sabha election, while the NDA won 335 seats. The Congress, which led the previous ruling regime, won just 44 seats, its worst ever tally.
Modi will take oath as India's 15th prime minister at the Rashtrapati Bhavan at 6 pm on May 26.
