TN Govt announces paddy procurement price

Chennai, Jun 13: The Tamil Nadu Government today announced procurement price of Rs 1,000 per quintal for ordinary variety of paddy and Rs 1,050 for the fine variety for the 2008-09 khariff season.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said the Centre had fixed the price at Rs 850 per quintal for ordinary variety and Rs 880 for the fine variety.

Considering the long pending demand of farmers, to ensure food security, improve productivity and encourage farmers with a good price, the Government had decided to fix the procurement price at Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,050 per quintal for ordinary and fine varieties respectively, an official release here said.
