Punjab encourage youth towards dairy, pig farming
Chandigarh, July 16: The Punjab government today said it has chalked out a plan to encourage unemployed youth to go for allied sectors including dairy, goat and pig farming.
Under this plan, the Animal Husbandry Department is also focusing on going to giving training to milk producers about new technique to enhance milk production, state's Animal Husbandry Minister Gulzar Sing Ranike said here.
He said a 45-day professional training would be imparted to milk producers to keep them abreast of new techniques in the field of dairy farming. He added that under this training programme farmers would also be trained about production of various milk products.
Minster said that the state government is committed to bring white revolution in the state and attract more farmers towards dairy farming. He said 25 per cent financial aid is being provided to general category and 33 per cent to SC category to purchase milk producing animals.
The Minister said Punjab is included in list of 14 states which are chosen under National Dairy plan programme for doubling milk production and for the implementation of this programme, Rs 6.73 crore has been released.
Ranike said that Punjab produces 9 per cent of total production of milk in the country and milk availability in Punjab is 961 grams per person which is highest in the country.
