Control sugar prices, Sonia tells Pawar

New Delhi, Aug 27: Congress President Sonia Gandhi has asked Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to control the rising prices of sugar and ensure there is adequate stock of sugar in India.

Pawar had fuelled fears of scarcity and shortage, saying that the forecast for the next season is not bright.

As sugar prices have been have been firming up internationally, many traders are hoarding the sugar stock in India.

Earlier, Satyavrat Chaturvedi, a CWC member, trained his guns on Pawar, blaming him for rising sugar prices.

AICC media department chairman Janardhan Dwivedi said, "Whatever the party had to say on the drought situation and other related issues, it has said through the CWC resolution. Whatever party would like to say in the future, it would say it officially."

He also said, "So far as expressing personal views are concerned, it advises all Congressmen not to express their so called personal views in public or through the media."
