Price rise not linked to my ministry, says Pawar
New Delhi, Jan 22: In a response that may further intensify the criticism against him, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has washed his hands of the soaring prices saying that his ministry has nothing to do with it.
“I do not understand how Ministry of Agriculture is concerned with price level. It is supposed to concentrate on agriculture produce," he said on Friday, Jan 22.
Pawar has come under attack over the growing prices of pulses, sugar and recently milk. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bahujan Samjwadi Party (BSP) have reacted strongly against the issue.
Responding to the criticism targeted at him, Pawar said that it was first time in 40 years that the issue of price rise was being linked to the Agriculture Ministry.
Defending himself and the ministry, the minister said that the agriculture ministry had successfully achieved the responsibility given to it and said that the ministry was able to make provisions of the necessary food stock despite drought-like situation across India.
