World Bank suggests Pakistan, give MFN status to India
In its 293- page document, World Bank (WB) suggested 12 most urgent possible reforms that Pakistan needs to take up like giving MFN status to India, taking electricity from India and more.
Ignoring the tensions between the two countries, WB report said that, "completing the trade normalisation process with India and granting the MFN status to it would benefit Pakistan immensely from the fast growth and large markets."If this happens, the bilateral trade flows could multiply three times.
Pakistan too has shown interest in buying power from India as Pakistani teams have visited power plants in the country last month.
The WB also stressed that the Pakistani government removed its impediments at the border, specially the Wagah- Attari border.
WB also spoke about further integrating border communities as population along the border in both India and Pakistan is the poorest in the region and integrating these communities will have its own challenges. Border bazaars and ways to boost cross- border trade need to fully explored.
