Tropical storm leaves 13 people dead in Mexico

Mexico City, Aug 27: At least 13 people were killed Monday by landslides caused by heavy rains from tropical storm Fernand when it landed and swept through the Mexican state of Veracruz, state government said.

The deaths were reported in Yecuatla town, Sierra de Misantla, in the municipality of Tuxpan, and in Atzalan community after the tropical storm made landfall near the port of Veracruz Sunday night, Xinhua reported citing Veracruz's civil protection office.

More than 100 homes were also damaged in the landslides.

The tropical storm would continue to weaken in the coming hours, said local weather forecast service.
