Karnataka MLC bypolls: Congress juggernaut continues
Bangalore, Aug 27: After bagging the Bangalore Rural and Mandya Lok Sabha seats, the ruling Congress continued with its good electoral run by winning two Legislative Council bypolls of August 22 as well.
The Congress wrested Hubil-Dharwad and Mysore-Chamarajanagar upper assembly house seats from the BJP. An independent candidate stunned all major political parties in the fray by winning the Chitradurga seat.
Former Karnataka chief minister Jagadish Shettar's younger brother Pradeep Shettar has lost Hubli-Dharwad seat to Congress' Nagaraj Chebbi. In the other seat, Congress candidate Dharmasena defeated KJP's Shekhar.
The JDS and the KJP had backed the BJP in two seats while the JDS and the BJP had backed the KJP in Mysore.
In the recent Lok Sabha bypolls, actor-politician Ramya of the Congress defeated the JD(S)'s Puttaraju while wife of former chief minister and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy, Anitha, lost to D K Suresh, brother of Congress's D K Shivakumar in Bangalore Rural.
