VHP activists demand that the yatra must continue
Mangalore, Aug 26: Activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal staged a dharna in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Town Hall here on Monday against the arrest of VHP leaders by the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government.
MB Puranik, regional working president, VHP said that the UP government and the Union government were preventing the VHP members from taking up the chaurasu kos yatra and demanded that the government must allow them to continue with the yatra.
A memorandum has been submitted to the President of India through the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshin Kannada, Puranik said that preventing the yatra amounted to curbing the fundamental rights of the Hindus.
He also alleged that the UP administration was anti-democratic in nature and had insulted Hindus.
