US condoles Indian submarine disaster

New Delhi, Aug 15: US ambassador Nancy J Powell Thursday expressed "sincere condolences" over the sinking of the Indian

Sindhurakshak.

Powell offered the condolences on behalf of the US to the Indian people and to the "families and friends of those lost aboard INS Sindhurakshak", an American embassy statement said.

The frontline submarine sank early Wednesday at the Mumbai dock following explosions and fire.

The Navy has ordered a board of inquiry to probe into the cause of the fire. While there is still no news of the 18 personnel who went down with the vessel, there are meek chances of their survival.
