[Send I-Day Greetings]

"Let us resolve to rededicate ourselves to uphold the sovereignty and integrity of our nation and build a strong and vibrant India," Governor Rosaiah said in a statement here.

Expressing his wish that Independence Day should rekindle the 'spirit of hard work and patriotic fervour,' he said the day would usher in 'progess, prosperity and robust growth in all spheres.'

In her message, Jayalalithaa said, "India would be a superpower and Tamil Nadu the numero uno State, if we construe the word independence as duty rather than interpreting it as right."

Hailing Tamil Nadu as a State of valour that had many martyrs who fought for freedom, she recalled her government's initiative in increasing their pension, family pension and medical allowance besides constructing memorials in their honour.
