Manipur celebrates 'Patriots Day'
Manipur, Aug 13: Manipur celebrates 'Patriots Day' on Tuesday, 13, to commemorate the 1891 Anglo-Manipuri war during which scores of people sacrificed their lives to safeguard the independence of the state.

Several functions were held in the state capital where Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, his Cabinet colleagues and senior officials placed wreaths to pay respects to those killed in the war.

Governor Ashwini Kumar, Speaker Th Lokeshore, Chief Minister Ibobi Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam in their separate messages on the occasion called upon the people to work unitedly for the development of Manipur and asked them to fight against those who stand against the integrity of the country.

'Patriots Day' was also celebrated at all district headquarters recalling the sacrifice by Thangal General and Bir Tikendrajit.
