Sonia expresses grief and shock over attack on army troops by Pak
New Delhi, August 6: Five Indian soldiers were killed by Pakistani troops who entered Indian territory through Jammu and Kashmir. Congress president Sonia Gandhi issued a statement, extending her condolences and urging the government to take appropriate steps.
The statement reads, "Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi has expressed deep grief and shock at the deceitful killing of 5 Indian solders by Pakistan at the LoC in Jammu & Kashmir. Extending heartfelt condolences to the family of the martyred soldiers she said that the entire congress party as indeed the entire country stands by them."

She also said that the Indian nation could not be cowed down by such blatant acts of deceit and urged the Government of India to take up appropriate measures.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister A K Antony also condemned the unprovoked attack. He assured the House that the Indian Army was ready to take necessary steps against continuing violation of ceasefire by Pakistani troops.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Antony said at least 20 people dressed in Pakistani military outfits crossed the LoC and attacked the Indian post. One person was also injured in the attack.
The Indian government has summoned the Pakistani Deputy High Commissioner and lodged a strong protest over the LoC violation and killing of Indian soldiers.
The defence minister said a strong message has been sent to Islamabad through diplomatic channels.
