Boxing champ Mary Kom champions Imphal roads

Mary Kom
Imphal, July 29: Tired of the numerous complaints and the repeated failures to make the government repair the roads here, the locals have owed up to the situation and fastened their belts for a long-drawn drive to repair the roads themselves.

The residents here have a lot of work to do as each of the zones here have a number of approaches to the main road.

And joining them is the Boxing Champion Mary Com and her family. " Besides filling up the potholes with pebbles and gravels, each of us have contributed Rs 500, amounting to Rs 20,000, which is enough for buying four truckloads of gravel," said Onler Kom, Mary Kom's husband.

The 3-km Langol Games Village road, named after her, is a miserable stretch and needs to be repaired immideately. The Champion had personally requested chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh, but there was no response. "I will again put pressure on the chief minister soon to develop the roads of the locality," Mary said.
