Karnataka: Bus plunges into lake, several feared dead

Bangalore, July 23:In a tragic incident near Belur, a KSRTC bus carrying about 50 passengers, comprising students mostly, plunged into a lake-Vishnu Samudra. Most of the passengers are feared to be dead. However, there are reports that 5 people have been able to swim to safety.

Police and local SP arrived at the place and rescue operations are on with the help of the fire fighters and the local people. Till now, bodies of 8 people have been fished out from the lake, while 20-25 people have been rescued till now. Police, however, fears the worst where most of the people might be dead.

The bus was travelling from Sakaleshpur to Belur when the bus driver lost control and plunged into the lake. The transport minister has announced a compensation of 3 lakhs for the family of the 8 dead.
