New Delhi, July 19: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday personally took stock of the national projects in the north-east. He assessed the status of each project in those parts of the country at a special meeting of the prime minister's office here.

He showed particular concern for the railway projects and asked the finance ministry to approve an additional Rs 200 crore for Silchar-Lamding route extension and construction of a bridge at Bogibil.

Singh asked the authorities also to complete three railway projects in the region by March next year. It was said that funds worth Rs 400 crore will be allotted for that purpose. The prime minister has also asked for speedy work in hydro-power projects in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.

Eleven out of 13 national projects which are under progress in the country are located in the northeast. The work has been going on for the last one decade and has faced various impediments time and again. The prime minister has formed a special committee to resolve all difficulties related to those projects.
