SC asks states to pay Rs 3 lakh to acid victims

New Delhi, July 18: Supreme Court on Thursday asked the state governments to pay Rs 3 lakh compensation to all acid victims, out of which Rs 1 lakh would be paid within a period of 15 days of the incident being reported to the police.

The court also ruled that the medical treatment and rehabilitation costs of the victims to be borne by the State governments.

The Supreme Court has asked the Centre, states & Union territories to make the acid attack offence non-bailable.

The court also ruled that Rs 50,000 fine would be imposed for selling acid illegally, no sale to anyone below 18 yrs and made photo ID must for buying acid.
