New Delhi, July 15: The iconic telegram became history just 15 minutes into the midnight on Monday with the last message sent to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
The telegram counter was closed at 11.45 pm and the revenue gathered was nearly Rs 69,000 as the country bid adieu to a glorious phase of communication.

The total booking of telegram on the final day was 2,197 of which 1,329 were made through computer while 91 were booked through phone, a senior officer said.
The final telegram was booked at the Central Telegraph Office counter here and it was done by Aswani Mishra, who sent messages to the Congress leader and Director General of DD News S M Khan.
The 163-year-old service was a prominent one in India even 30 years ago but had lost $250 million in the last seven years as mobile phone subscriptions reached 867 million in April this year, more than double than what it was four years ago.
