Building collapses in New Delhi, 1 reportedly killed
New Delhi, July 6: One person was reportedly killed after a four-storey building collapsed in Jafrabad area of northeast Delhi on Friday night. Fifteen people were feared to be injured while rescue operations were in full swing to bring out the trapped from under the rubble.
The incident occurred while work was underway to demolish the building. The newly constructed building had developed cracks and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had declared it unsafe. MCD sources said the owner of the building sought to demolish the building himself even as the civic body planned to bring it down by Saturday morning. The building collapsed before it was demolished, the sources added.
Building collapses have been frequent nowadays. A few days ago, a building housing a garment factory collapsed in Thane in Maharashtra, killing six. However, the most horrifying case of building collapse occurred in April, also in Thane, where 74 people were killed.
