11 people from PoK detained at Nepal border

Maharajganj, July 3: Eleven people, including five former militants, who tried to enter India from

, seeking to avail the benefits of Jammu and Kashmir Rehabilitation policy were detained.

Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) commandant of Sonouli, B K Bankhoti said that the group comprising five men, four women and two children were sent to Jammu and Kashmir cell in Delhi, accompanied by jawans.

"The group had reached Kathmandu from Pakistan and from there crossed into India Tuesday night and were detained by security personnel as they did not have valid documents," he said.

They had left Jammu and Kashmir between 1989 and 2009 and were settled in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), Bankhoti said, adding that some of them had also been involved in terrorist activities.

They told security personnel that they wanted to take advantage of the Rehabilitation policy of 2010 under the J&K government and wanted to go there.

According to the surrender policy, former militants who crossed over to PoK between 1989 and 2009 would be considered for safe return.

The SSB Jawans will accompany the group till Delhi and from there the central intelligence agencies would take over.
