Srinagar shut after army kills 2 young persons

Srinagar, July 1: Shops, schools and offices here and the surrounding areas remained shut on Monday as part of a strike called to protest Sunday's killing of two young persons, including a school boy, by the army.

A case of murder was filed against the army by the police in Bandipora district where the incident tool place. The army begun an inquiry and also expressed regret.

Massive protests broke out on Sunday in the wake of the killing of Irfan Nabi, a Class XII student, and Tariq Ahmad, another young student.

Meanwhile, two jawans were injured in Pulwama district in south Kashmir on Monday morning after militants fired at a group of patrolling security officers. The security men had launched a counter-insurgency operation when the firing started.
