Arun Jaitley slams GoM recommendations on CBI autonomy
New Delhi, July 1: Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitely on Sunday slammed the GoM's recommendations on CBI's autonomy as a "farce" and a "remedy worse than the existing problem".
Jaitley said in his blog that the GoM recommendations, which are part of a government affidavit in the Supreme Court, made the investigative agency accountable to a panel of retired judges, who themselves are not answerable to anybody else.

According to Jaitley, the matter would have been better addressed if the recommendations of the parliamentary panel going into the Lokpal Bill were considered.
The advice included separation of the CBI's prosecution and probe wing, a collegium system for appointing the director and others. Jaitley felt these recommendations would have ensured a fair appointment of the director and said "separation of a directorate of prosecution which would function on an independent basis rather than just be an officer on deputation from the law ministry".
