How Jiah Khan's suicide haunts Suraj and Pancholis

Mumbai, June 27: In a major setback for the Pancholis, Suraj's judicial custody has been extended till July 11 by a Andheri court on Thursday, June 27.

The Pancholis, who moved the Bomaby High Court, challenged a lower court's order of rejecting Suraj's bail plea. The 22-year-old aspiring actor was produced before Andheir magistrate after the expiry of his judicial custody on Thursday. The high court will hear the case on June 5.

Suraj, the son of Bollywood actor Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, was charged with abetting the suicide of Bollywood actress Nafisa alias Jiah Khan.

The Pancholis moved the high court following the lower court's order which had observed that the FIR and probe reports clearly suggested that Jiah was continuously subjected to ill-treatment by the accused.

In a six-page letter allegedly written by Jiah, she had allegedly spoken of torture and abortion. The police were using the letter as a dying declaration to charge Sooraj.

But his lawyers countered that the letter did not mention about the date of the abuse and did not make any mention that Sooraj was responsible for the crime. They also claimed that the handwriting in the letter and Jiah's signature were different.

25-year-old Jiah was found dead in her Juhu residence in Mumbai on June 3. Her mother and sister were not present at the flat. Postmortem report said the young actress died due to hanging.
