Karunanidhi thanks Sonia for supporting Kanimozhi in RS poll

Chennai, June 26: DMK chief M Karunanidhi has thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi for supporting his daughter Kanimozhi in the Rajya Sabha elections.

"I would like to thank you and the Congress party on behalf of the DMK and myself for supporting our candidate Kanimozhi in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections," he said in a message to Gandhi late last night.

Meanwhile, Kanimozhi met TNCC president B S Gnanadesikan to thank the party for supporting her.

She told reporters she had come to thank Congress for supporting her, but declined to comment on ties between the two parties.

Congress had on Tuesday announced its support to Kanimozhi, setting off speculations it was cosying upto former ally DMK. The Karunanidhi-led party had snapped ties with its nine year-old ally in March on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.

Congress has five legislators in the 234-member Tamil Nadu assembly.
