Bangalore, June 22: "WhereIsPappu" was one among the trending hash tags on micro-blogging site Twitter on Saturday, June 22. Twitterattis cracked jokes on "Pappu" expressing their disappointment with Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi who has been "missing" since a devastating flood shattered Uttarakhand and other areas in North India.

While Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi visited the flood-ravaged region in Uttarakhand on Friday, Rahul Gandhi's absence shocked and disappointed many, especially the youth of the country.

However, Congress downplayed the hype over Rahul Gandhi's absence. Congress spokesperson and veteran Bollywood actor Raj Babbar was quoted as saying, "It should not matter who has gone (to flood-hit areas) and who has not. The focus should be on rescue and relief operations."

"Both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and party chief Sonia Gandhi are monitoring the situation. VIP visits hamper relief operations. Sonia Gandhi has not visited Uttarakhand keeping this in mind. She will visit as soon as the situation improves," Raj Babbar added.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on Saturday said that at least 550 people died across the state. Meanwhile, reports say 50,000 were still stranded in the region. Rescue operation team located 1,000 people in mountains between Gaurikund and Rambara in Kedarnath.
