Karnataka rewarded with good portfolios at Centre

Bangalore, June 17: Karnataka has been rewarded with heavy portfolios by the Congress top leadership for bringing the party back to power in the state after defeating the BJP in the recent assembly elections.

Veteran leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who lost the race for the post of the chief minister in Karnataka to Siddaramaiah, was given large of the high-profile railway ministry from the labour ministry while Oscar Fernandes, a close aide of party chief Sonia Gandhi, was given charge of roads and highways ministry.

Another senior leader, M Veerappa Moily is in charge of big portfolio of petroleum and natural gas.

The Congress, which has six Lok Sabha seats from Karnataka, is represented by five ministers, including KH Muniyappa (minister of state with independent charge of micro, medium and small enterprise (MSME) and K Rahman Khan (minority affairs minister).
