Girl attempts suicide after harassment by four youth

Thane, Jun 1: A teenage girl attempted suicide here after being allegedly harassed by four youths, police said today.

The incident took place last evening at Salvad locality in Boisar when the 17-year-old poured kerosene and set herself afire, they said.

The girl suffered 70 percent burns and was rushed to the Rural Hospital initially and later shifted to Masina hospital in Palghar where she is battling for her life, police added.

The victim tried to end her life after she was fed up of the lewd comments passed by the youths -- Aksahy Raut, Prameet, Abhijeet More and Milind Dongre --of the same locality.

According to PSI V R Patil of Boisar Police station, the youths humiliated and harassed the girl, accusing her of having illicit relations with a boy in the village.

The absconding youths have been charged under section 306 of the IPC, and a manhunt has been launched for them, police said.
