IPL spot fixing: Now, Bollywood celebrities under scanner?
Mumbai, May 18: Are Bollywood celebrities are also under scanner in connection to the spot-fixing scandal in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) that has rocked Indian cricket? Sources have revealed that the Mumbai Police have a list of punters who used to receive bets from the celebrities.
Among the names of celebrities who used to bet on the IPL are a hero of the yesteryears who has turned a producer now, an actor whose kin is a known producer of teleserials and also the actor brother of a controversial hero. The police said it will not probe who all were there in the betting but will surely quiz the celebrities if they see huge illegal transactions.
This is not the first time that name of celebrities have come up in connection with betting. Last year, bookies Devendra Kothari and Sonu Jalan alias Junior Kolkata, had spilled beans on the celebrities after getting arrested.
The crime branch also arrested producer Prakash Chandnani, a partner of an absconding Dubai-based bookie Sunil Abhichandani alias Dubai. The police suspected that the producer diverted money received from betting for making an anti-corruption film.
Another hero was under scanner for sending a huge amount to Dubai via Hawala but lack of evidence stopped the police from initiating any action.
