on Wednesday while filing his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections on May 30, Singh mentioned his age as 82 years.

But that didn't match with his age recorded in a the affidavit he had filed just before the May 2007 Rajya Sabha polls. In that, he had said he was 74 years old, which would make him 80 plus now. That figure matches with his date of birth listed on the Prime Minister's Office website.

Singh's official online profile says he was born on September 26, 1932, which means he turns 81 this September.

This discrepancy could lead to further personal embarrassment for the PM, who was has been cornered over a slew of scams under the second stint of the ruling UPA, particularly in the Coalgate scam.
