Storm destroys over 10,000 banana plants in Erode

Erode (TN), May 12: More than 10,000 fully-grown

plantations have been damaged in parts of the district in a gale over the weekend, farmers said.

The gale struck Nambiyur and Punjai Puliampatty areas on Friday and Saturday, devastating banana plantations in the region, they said.

Though there was not much rain, the gale left more than 10,000 banana plantations badly damaged, the farmers said adding they have appealed to the District Collector to sanction relief.
