"According to the information provided by the CBI, 31 cases (26 regular cases and five preliminary enquiries) have been registered against IAS and IPS officers in the country during the last two years i.e. 2011 and current year 2012 (up to March 31, 2013)," Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V Narayanasamy told Lok Sabha in a written reply.
Of these 31 cases, 13 have been disposed from investigation or enquiry and 18 of them are at different stage of investigation, he said. The CBI is awaiting sanction for prosecution in eight cases. There are also disciplinary cases against 82 officers of Indian Administrative Service and Indian Police Service.
According to All India Services (Disciplinary and Appeal) Rules, 1969, only such disciplinary cases against IAS and IPS officers working in the state government that have imposition of penalty of dismissal from service, removal from service, and compulsory retirement are referred to the central government.
Besides, disciplinary cases in respect of all IAS and IPS officers on deputation at the Centre are dealt by the central government. "Presently, there are disciplinary cases against 47 such IAS officers and 35 such IPS officers," Narayanasamy added.
