India not to send back injured Sanaullah Haq to Pakistan

New Delhi, May 3: India has decided not to send back Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Haq, who was beaten up in a jail in Jammu on Friday, to Pakistan, reports said. Pakistani authorities had earlier in the day asked India to release haq and send him back on humanitarian grounds.

Haq's condition is reportedly stable now and he is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chandigarh, where he was airlifted from Jammu following the attack on him.

India, however, allowed Pakistani officials to meet the injured Haq in Chandigarh.

The incident occurred after a condemned Indian prisoner, Sarabjit Singh, who had been kept in a Pakistani jail for 23 years, died after being brutally assaulted by six people inside the jail. Singh was treated at Jinnah Hospital in Lahore where he passed away in the wee hours of Thursday. Pakistan refused to send him back and handed over the body after he died. A special Air India flight brought back the body on Thursday evening.

Singh was cremated on Friday.
