Manmohan Singh's RS seat to go to poll on May 30

New Delhi, May 2: The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday announced the schedule to fill up two Rajya Sabha seats from Assam, including that held by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The election, which will be held on May 30, will be participated by the state MLAs.

The poll is announced as the terms of Singh (Congress) and Kumar Deepak Das (Asom Gana Parishad) are coming to an end on June 14. If re-elected, the prime minister will hold the Rajya Sabha membership for the fifth time. The term of a member of the Upper House is six years.

The poll notification will be issued on May 13 while the last date for filing nominations is May 20. The papers will be scrutinized on May 21 while May 23 is the last date for withdrawing the candidature. Voting will take place between 9 am and 4 pm on May 30 while the counting will take place the same day at 5 pm.
