Bhopal Tragedy: Govt Hospital building collapses, 2 killed

Bhopal, April 27: At least two people were killed and 15 people were injured when a wing of government hospital in Bhopal collapsed on Friday, April 26.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday announced Rs 2 lakh compensation each to family members of the two deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured people.

Rescue operation at the site has been completed. Collector Nikunj Shrivastava was quoted as saying, "The bodies of two persons identified as Jameel and Arun were found when the rescue team started removing debris of the collapsed structure."

The building of Kasturba Gandhi Hospital, which is run by Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), was under construction. The building collapsed around 5:30 PM. According to sources, most people, who were trapped, were patients admitted to the government hospital.

Injured people were being treated in another wing of the hospital and other patients have also been shifted to safe places, informed Executive Director of BHEL, SR Prasad.

Army and local people in the area had helped rescue teams to to pull out people from the debris. The government hospital was situated at Fatehgarh area at Bhopal.
