Azam Khan detention: Akhilesh boycotts Harvard lecture

Boston, April 27: Upset wit the alleged detention of his Cabinet minister Azam Khan at the Boston airport,

Chief Minister

boycotted his lecture at Harvard. He also cancelled a reception which was to be hosted by New York Consul General Dnyaneshwar Mulay in his honour on Saturday.

A communique issued from the Consulate General of India in New York said the reception was cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances. Neither Ambassador Mulay, who took the charge on Wednesday after his stint as the High Commissioner of India in Maldives, nor Minister (Press and Information) M Rajaram were available for any comment on the reason for the cancellation of the reception.

Invitation to the reception was sent to all prominent Indian-Americans, community leaders, elected officials, media representatives and others two days ago after the consulate received the confirmation from the office of the UP chief minister. Yadav was supposed to give a lecture on his administration's successfully handling the recently held Kumbh Mela, the largest religious congregation in the world.

Yadav is scheduled to return to India from New York JKF Airport on Sunday while Khan is to leave by a British Airways flight on Saturday. Khan, the state urban development minister, was allegedly detained at the airport for about 10 minutes for further questioning" after he landed in a British Airways flight on Wednesday.
