Justice Verma, head of anti-rape panel dies at 80
New Delhi, April 22: Justice Jagdish Sharan Verma, former chief justice of India and head of a 3 member panel to examine laws on crime against women, died on Monday (April 22), due to multiple organ failure.
Justice Verma was 80. Many of his reccomendations were included in the anti- rape law which was recently passed by Parliament. The panel was set-up soon after the December 16 gang-rape in New Delhi.
The Verma Commission had compiled its report within 29 days. At that point Justice Verma had requested the government to match up to their efficiency.
