Earthquake of 7 magnitude hits parts of Japan, Russia

Tokyo, April 19: An earthquake of 7.0 magnitude struck far-northern Japan and far-eastern Russia on Friday. The area is almost 1,500 kilometres northeast from Tokyo and the tremor was felt in the Pacific Ocean at a relatively shallow depth of 10 kilometres.

The Japan Metereological Agency said sea changes were possible because of the quake although no damage was expected. The epicentre was 58 kilometres east-northeast of Kuril'sk, Russia, and 528 kilometers (328 miles) northeast of Nemuro, Japan, news agency reports said.
