China: 14 killed after fire spreads to hotel

Beijing, April 15: Fourteen people were killed while 50 were injured after a fire at an internet cafe spread to a hotel on the upper floors of a building in Xiangyang city in Hubei province of central China on Sunday morning. Some of the hotel guests escaped and were later rescued by the firefighters.

According to the official Xinhua News Agency, the fire started around 6.30 am and was extinguished by 9 am.

Firefighting sources said the fire had started in an internet cafe on three floors below the hotel in the five-storey building. Forty-two of the 50 rooms in the hotel were occupied at the moment. The exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
